ERROR CODE GUIDE
Washer showing a drain error?
Drain-related codes usually mean water did not leave the washer in time. The exact display code differs by model, so verify it in the manual before treating it as a part failure.
Safe first checks
- Look for a kinked or crushed drain hose.
- Check whether the standpipe or sink is backed up.
- Note whether water remains in the drum after a cycle.
- Use the model manual for any filter-access instructions.
When to stop
Seek professional help for a major leak, repeated drain failures, a burning smell, or a blocked household drain that affects other fixtures.
Read the pattern before retrying
Note whether the code appears with a full drum, whether you hear a pump hum, and whether water reaches the standpipe or backs up elsewhere. A nearby sink that drains slowly can point to household plumbing, not a washer part. One controlled observation after a visible hose check is useful; repeated drain cycles are not a way to clear a blockage.
Safe DIY versus service
Safe DIY: inspect the visible hose route and use only the filter procedure in your exact manual. Manual-only: opening a service flap with water containment specified by the maker. Technician or plumber: a hot pump area, leaking water, an inaccessible restriction, repeated codes, or backup in other drains.
What one restart can tell you
After the visible hose route is clear and only if the model instructions allow it, one normal attempt can separate an occasional slow drain from a repeating fault. Watch from a safe distance: does water leave, does it stop partway, or does it back up into the standpipe? Do not stand by an open filter or pull the machine away while it is full of water.
Keep the useful evidence
A technician or plumber can work much faster with the exact display code, model number, cycle stage, and a note about nearby drains. A photo of the hose route is useful too. This information is more valuable than a guessed pump part number and avoids replacing a washer component when the real restriction is in household plumbing.

Washer not draining →Common questions
Can a drain code be caused by too much detergent?
Excess suds can interfere with a cycle, but it does not prove that a drain path is clear. Start with water level, visible hose routing, and the manual-approved filter procedure. Do not keep rinsing a full drum to solve a possible obstruction.
Why did the washer stop before spin?
Many washers must confirm that water has drained before high-speed spin. A drain code can therefore look like a spin failure. Check whether water remains before treating it as a motor or balance problem.
