WASHER ERROR CODES

A code is a clue.
Not a diagnosis.

Write down the exact letters, numbers, and flashes on the display before doing anything else. The same-looking code can mean different things across brands and models.

CODE FINDER

Start with the exact code on the display

These are common code families, not a substitute for your model manual. Match the brand and characters exactly.

Samsung

4C / 4E

Usually: water is not entering fast enough.

Check both water valves, inlet-hose kinks, and inlet screens. Do not dismantle a live washer.

Samsung

Ub / UE

Usually: an unbalanced load stopped spin.

Redistribute the load; do not wash one heavy item alone.

LG

LE

Usually: a motor/drive protection code.

Unplug for a few minutes and check that the drum turns freely. Repeated LE needs model-specific service.

LG

IE / 1E

Usually: the washer is not filling as expected.

Check valves, hose kinks, and visible inlet screens.

Whirlpool

F21

Usually: a long-drain condition.

Check the drain hose and clean the accessible filter if your manual shows one.

Whirlpool

F5 E2

Usually: door-lock trouble.

Do not force the door. Remove pressure from an overloaded drum and retry once.

GE

E1

Commonly: water-level or fill/drain trouble.

Use the model manual to confirm the exact meaning before resetting.

Maytag

F9 E1

Usually: long drain.

Check the hose and drain path first; standing water should be handled with towels and power off.

Start here: get the code right

  1. Photograph the display and note whether it appears during fill, wash, drain, or spin.
  2. Find your model number — usually around the door, lid, cabinet edge, or rear panel.
  3. Check the manufacturer manual for that exact model before ordering parts or resetting anything.
