Washer showing an unbalanced-load error?

The washer may pause or refuse to spin when it cannot balance the load safely. This is often a load issue, but recurring errors can also point to leveling or suspension problems.

Safe first checks

1. Pause the cycle and redistribute heavy items evenly.
2. Wash one bulky item with similar items or towels, as the manual recommends.
3. Confirm the washer sits level and all feet touch the floor.
4. Do not overload the drum.

When to stop

Arrange service if severe shaking happens with normal loads, the cabinet moves across the floor, or you hear metal-on-metal noise.

Separate a bulky item from a repeating fault

A wet comforter, bath mat, or tightly bundled sheet can create a one-off balance problem. A modest mixed load that triggers the code repeatedly is different. After redistributing and checking that all feet touch the floor, make one sensible retry. Do not keep adding weight until the machine accepts it, and never brace a moving cabinet.

When installation becomes the next check

If the washer rocks while off, vibration starts after it was moved, or the floor flexes noticeably, use the installation manual before blaming suspension parts. Severe walking, a drum striking the cabinet, leaks, or metal noise are stop-use signs and need service.

Start with the load that triggered it

One bath mat, comforter, jacket, or other water-heavy item can clump to one side and make a healthy washer stop spin. Pause only after the drum stops, spread the load around the basket, and retry once. A mixed load that runs normally after redistribution is different from a machine that shakes hard with small, balanced loads.

What a repeated code changes

If the same error returns with an ordinary balanced load, stop treating it as a laundry mistake. Note whether the cabinet rocks, whether a foot has lost contact with the floor, and whether there is a new knock or scrape. Do not stack pads, wedges, or loose objects under a moving washer; installation or mechanical checks beyond the manual belong to service.

Common questions

Should I add towels to balance one heavy item?

Only use a sensible, manual-approved mixed load. Randomly adding weight can make an already saturated item harder to balance. If the appliance refuses the load after one normal redistribution, stop rather than repeatedly forcing spin.

Why does a new washer shake?

Confirm its installation, floor contact, and transport-bolt removal from the exact installation manual. Do not try to steady it during spin or put makeshift pads under a moving machine.
