GE H2O SUPPLY / IE message: water is not entering the washer.

IMMEDIATE ACTION

THE SHORT ANSWER

GE H2O SUPPLY (shown as IE on some washers, or as the Wash and Rinse lights blinking) means water is not entering the washer. Check the house water supply and make sure the supply valves are on, including after an installation or a vacation. The controls lock for 4 minutes once the message scrolls, so wait, then start the cycle again. If the valves are on and the message returns, GE says to schedule service.

Based on GE Appliances support pages for the Consumer Help Indicator and for front-load washers, checked October 10, 2026.

What H2O SUPPLY / IE means

GE’s Consumer Help Indicator page lists “H2O SUPPLY, IE, or Wash and Rinse lights blinking” together and says they mean water is not entering the washer. GE’s separate page for front-load washers describes the H2O Supply error: it appears when there is a problem with the pressure sensor or when the water supply valves are off, and in rare cases with extremely low water pressure. GE says it is unrelated to the options or cycle you chose. GE notes that messages may vary by model, so your owner’s manual is the reference for your exact washer.

How it appears: H2O SUPPLY scrolling across the display, IE, or the Wash and Rinse lights blinking.

What to do, in order

  1. Let the lockout run. Once the message starts to scroll, the controls lock for 4 minutes. Unplugging the washer restarts that timer, so leave it plugged in. On a front-load washer, GE says the washer normally runs its drain pump during those 4 minutes as a safeguard against overfilling.
  2. Check the water supply. Make sure the house water is on and the supply valves are open (one or both, depending on your setup). GE calls this out especially after an installation or after you have been away.
  3. If it fills slowly, check the inlet screens. GE’s front-load no-fill page says some models stop if filling takes longer than 20 to 40 minutes, and names low water pressure or clogged valve screens as causes. Turn off the water and unplug the washer before you take a hose off to look at a screen.
  4. Start the cycle again. Do this after the 4-minute lockout has ended.

If the message returns with the valves on

GE says that once you have confirmed the water supply is on, the next step is a repair appointment through GE’s support page. Tell them:
