THE SHORT ANSWER
F7E2 on a Maytag washer is a control-system alert. Maytag’s top-load page says it indicates an issue with the appliance control unit, user interface or associated wiring; its front-load page gives no definition. For both, the only owner step is to unplug the washer for 5 minutes and plug it back in. If F7E2 returns, contact Maytag service.

What F7E2 means
Maytag’s top-load page says the F7E2 alert points to an issue with the appliance control unit, the user interface or the associated wiring. Maytag’s front-load F7 E2 page does not explain the code; it only offers the reset. Neither page lists a cause you can check at home, so this page does not either.
How it appears: F7 E2 on the display, also written F7E2 or F7-E2.
What to do, in order
- Note the display. Take a photo of the display, and note what the washer was doing (filling, washing, draining, spinning). A service technician will ask.
- Reset the control. Maytag says resetting the control can sometimes solve the issue. Disconnect the washer from power for 5 minutes: if it is plugged into an outlet, unplug it, then plug it back in.
- Start a cycle again. If F7E2 does not return, carry on. If it does, stop repeating the reset and call for service.
If F7E2 comes back
Maytag’s next step is to contact Maytag or schedule service through the links on its page. Have these ready:
- The model number (where to find it).
- The photo of the display showing F7 E2, and whether it is a front-load or a top-load washer.
- That you did the 5-minute reset and what happened afterwards.
