Maytag washer error codes: what each one means and what to check first.

The door is not locking properly.

First check: Re-close the door firmly, clear the opening, then unplug the washer for 5 minutes.

The washer is not draining correctly (long drain).

First check: Check the drain hose (no more than 4.5 in / 113 mm into the pipe, not taped in), then the pump filter and door seal holes.

The washer is not detecting the correct amount of incoming water.

First check: Press power and let the 8 to 10 minute drain routine finish, then check both valves, the hoses and the inlet screens.

Motor speed sensing error: the motor can’t reach the speed the cycle requires (front-load page).

First check: Make sure the shipping bolts and spacers are removed, then unplug the washer for 5 minutes.

Control-system alert. The top-load page points to the control unit, user interface or wiring; the front-load page gives no definition.

First check: Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in. Do not open the console.

A problem with the dispenser system.

First check: Check the detergent drawer or cartridge for a detergent clog (top-load bulk dispensers have their own checks).

Too many suds detected. The washer pauses and adds water for extra rinsing until the bubbles break down.

First check: Let the extra rinse finish, then check your detergent amount and avoid “no splash” or “easy pour” bleach.

A reminder, shown after 30 cycles, to run the Clean Washer cycle. It is not a fault.

First check: Empty the drum and run the Clean Washer cycle; the reminder also clears itself after three cycles.

Clothing was detected while the washer tried to run the Clean Washer cycle.

First check: Empty the drum completely and start Clean Washer again.
