THE SHORT ANSWER

LG dE means the washer could not lock the door. Open and re-close the door and check that no laundry is caught between the door and the rubber gasket. Then reset the washer: switch it off, unplug it or turn off its circuit breaker, press and hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds with the power off, restore power and try again. If dE1 or dE2 keeps returning, LG says the washer needs service.

What dE, dE1 and dE2 mean

LG separates three door codes. dE: the door was unable to lock, which LG says can usually be fixed with a simple reset. dE1: the door is not closed properly, which can happen when laundry is caught between the door and the rubber gasket. dE2: the door is closed but not locked; LG lists too much laundry, items stuck between the door and the gasket, or a bent or broken door latch as possible causes. LG’s article does not say which models it covers.

Fix it in three steps

Check the door area. Look for laundry caught between the door and the rubber gasket, and take out some of the load if the drum is packed so tightly that it presses on the door. Check that nothing else stops the door from closing.
Open and re-close the door. Close it fully so it latches.
Reset the washer. Power the washer off. Unplug it or turn off the circuit breaker. With the power disabled, press and hold START/PAUSE for 5 seconds. Plug the washer back in or restore the breaker, then try again.

If dE1 or dE2 comes back

LG says that if dE1 or dE2 continues, the washer needs service, and points to its 24/7 chat support for requesting a repair. A bent or broken latch is a repair, not a home fix. Tell them:

The model number (where to find it).
Which code you see (dE, dE1 or dE2) and when it appears.
That nothing is caught at the gasket and that you did the START/PAUSE reset.
