THE SHORT ANSWER
F7E1 on a Maytag front-load washer is a motor speed sensing error: the motor can’t reach the speed the selected cycle requires. If the washer is new or was moved, check that all four shipping bolts and the plastic spacers are out of the back panel. Then unplug the washer for 5 minutes to reset the control. If F7E1 comes back, contact Maytag service.

What F7E1 means
Maytag’s front-load help page describes F7E1 as a motor speed sensing error: the motor can’t reach the speed the selected cycle requires. The only owner check it lists is the shipping bolts and spacers. Maytag’s top-load page for F7E1 does not define the code at all and gives only the reset, so the two pages are not the same advice.
How it appears: F7 E1 on the display, also written F7E1 or F7-E1.
Fix it in three steps
- Check the shipping bolts and spacers. Maytag says to remove all four shipping bolts and the plastic spacers from the rear of the washer before using it, and that leaving them in can cause noise, vibration or error codes. Your installation instructions show where they are; Maytag’s page also links a video.
- Reset the control. Disconnect the washer from power for 5 minutes: if it is plugged into an outlet, unplug it, then plug it back in.
- Try the cycle again. If F7E1 stays away, you are done. If it returns, go to the next step.
If F7E1 comes back
Maytag’s page says to schedule service or contact Maytag. It lists no further owner checks, so do not open the cabinet or test the motor yourself. Have these ready:
- The model number (where to find it).
- That the display shows F7 E1 and that the shipping bolts and spacers are removed.
- That you did the 5-minute reset and what the washer did afterwards (did it spin at all?).

KEEP THE ROUTE SPECIFIC
Use the code, model, and matching symptom together.
Use the Maytag code hub for nearby codes, confirm the exact model, or open the symptom guide if the washer also shakes or won’t spin.
