THE SHORT ANSWER
F0E7 means the washer detected clothing while it was trying to run the Clean Washer cycle. Take everything out of the drum and start Clean Washer again. If F0E7 comes back with an empty drum, Whirlpool says to call for service.

What F0E7 means
Whirlpool’s help pages for front-load and top-load washers use the same words: clothing was detected while attempting to run the Clean Washer cycle. Neither page lists a failed part as a cause. Clean Washer is a maintenance cycle that uses higher water levels together with a washer cleaner, which is why laundry in the drum stops it.
How it appears: F0 E7 on the display (with a zero). People also type F0E7, F0-E7, or FOE7 with a letter O.
Fix it in three steps
- Stop the cycle and empty the drum. Use the controls to stop the cycle, wait until the door or lid opens normally, and take out all clothing and towels. Check the whole drum for small items, and on a front-loader look inside the fold of the door seal as well.
- Start Clean Washer again with nothing in the drum. Whirlpool says the cycle works with washer cleaner (such as affresh), liquid chlorine bleach, or another washing machine cleaner. Your manual shows where the cleaner goes and how much to use. Do not use thickened, easy-pour, or no-splash bleach: Whirlpool warns it can cause excessive suds.
- Let the cycle run to the end. If it finishes without the code, you are done.
If F0E7 comes back with an empty drum
Whirlpool’s instruction is short: if the problem persists, call for service. Repeating the cycle again and again is not part of its advice. Have these ready so the call is quick:
- The model number (where to find it).
- A photo of the display showing F0 E7.
- The cycle you selected when the code appeared.
Run Clean Washer every month
Whirlpool recommends running the Clean Washer cycle every month to keep the washer fresh. Its page also suggests leaving the door slightly open afterwards so the inside can dry (stated for steam models). For the full routine, see our guide to cleaning a washing machine.
