Whirlpool F5 E2: do not make a locked door into a broken door.
F5 E2 commonly points to a door-lock issue on many Whirlpool models. The washer may not be able to confirm a safe lock or release. It is not a prompt to pry, pull harder, or defeat the latch.
A garment caught in the gasket can keep the door from closing cleanly.
A packed drum can press against the door and make closing harder.
The lock may stay engaged until the washer senses the drum is safe.
Check the simple door conditions
Use the controls to pause or cancel the cycle, then wait for the machine's normal response. Look only for fabric caught at the door opening or an overloaded drum pressing against it. Do not insert tools into the latch area.
Use the manual for the model-specific restart
If the washer is empty, cool, and the surrounding area is dry, follow the restart or emergency-release instructions in the exact manual. Some models have a documented procedure; others do not. A video from another model is not a safe substitute.
When F5 E2 needs service
Recurring codes, a loose or damaged latch, a door that will not close, or a machine that locks and immediately fails needs repair. Keep the code photo and model number for service.
