What F5E2 means
Maytag’s help page says this code “indicates that the door is not locking properly.” It names no cause beyond the door not being latched. A door can look closed without being latched, and the door must be fully shut for the washer to run.
How it appears: F5 E2 on the display, also written F5E2 or F5-E2.
Fix it in three steps
- Close the door firmly. Open it and close it again. A door can look as if it is closed without being latched.
- Check for obstructions. Look for laundry sticking out past the door opening before you close it. Leave enough room for clothes to tumble freely, and reduce the load if the drum is packed.
- Reset the control. Maytag compares this to restarting a computer. Unplug the washer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in.
If F5E2 comes back

- The model number (where to find it).
- That the display shows F5 E2 and that you already re-closed the door, cleared the opening, and did the 5-minute reset.
